Founded in 2023 by Hannah Gaff and Ahmed Moussa, Theatre for Climate Justice (TFCJ) is an applied theatre initiative that brings together local artists, displaced communities, and young changemakers to create performances addressing urgent environmental and social issues. The first phase of the project took place in Egypt in 2024 with the creation of a show that toured to displaced communities around Cairo—serving Syrian, Eritrean, South Sudanese, Ethiopian, and other displaced communities—engaging audiences through interactive storytelling and puppet-making workshops. This was followed by a second project in Zimbabwe, collaborating with artists in Harare to devise a new production on climate-driven displacement and extreme weather. With a vision for further global work, TFCJ aims to expand the reach of its message, using theatre as a catalyst for climate action and justice worldwide.
Theatre for Climate Justice harnesses the power of performance to address the urgent intersections of climate change, displacement, and social justice. Through collaborative storytelling, we bring together local artists, displaced communities, and young changemakers to create impactful theatre that sparks dialogue, fosters empathy, and inspires action.
Our mission is to amplify the voices of those most affected by environmental and social crises, using theatre as a catalyst for awareness, resilience, and systemic change. By engaging communities worldwide, we strive to cultivate a more just and sustainable future—one performance at a time.
